Wicked Audio Solus Headphones (black/red)

Wicked Audio Solus Headphones: Sleek, DJ-Style at an Affordable Price

We’ve geeked out over Wicked Audio’s entire collection for years now. They routinely release high quality, great looking headphones and earbuds that cost half as much as their competitors.

Their latest – the premier, full-sized Solus headphones – are no exception. They offered to send us a sample for review and after a month of regular use, here’s what we found …

Wicked Audio Solus Headphones (black/red)

The Skinny

In Wicked Audio’s own words, the Solus headphones deliver:

  • Dual thickness headband
  • Stealth hinge to fold the unit into itself for storage/travel
  • 40mm Drivers
  • 4-foot cord plus a 6-foot extension cord
  • Gold-plated plugs
  • Lifetime warranty

In Detail

Design

Straight out of the box, it’s impossible not to notice the badass black/red color combo. Love or hate it, it’s ultra modern and very Vampire-chic.

The bold red braided cable is a nice touch typically found on more expensive headphones. It virtually guarantees you won’t find a tangled mess when removing the unit from your bag.

Midway up the cable, you’ll also find a volume dial (this doesn’t work with mobile devices – it actually adjusts the volume within the headphones themselves) and a stereo/mono switch which should keep DJ-wannabes happy.

Construction & Durability

The only possible reservation we have with the Solus is the build quality. While we didn’t have any specific issues during our month-long test, we couldn’t help but feel that they’re not quite on a par with other high-end (albeit much more expensive) headphones sets.

With a price point less than $60 USD, we really can’t quibble too much. But for travelers who may be hard on their gear, we wonder if these headphones can withstand the daily beating of long-term travel.

Audio Quality

That said, the Solus headphones deliver with solid audio quality: great bass response that isn’t too thumping/overbearing, a balanced mid-range and highs that aren’t so high they leave your ears ringing.

Pricing & Availability

Available now in black/red color combo for around $55 USD from Amazon.com.

Bottom Line

Full sized, DJ-friendly headphones at a great price. Potential build quality issues aside, we think the Solus’s sleek design, braided cord, lifetime warranty, and sub-$60 price point still make them a sound buy.
