Canadians are known for being so polite, it’s difficult to imagine them starting a zombie war. Nevertheless a clash between rival zombie camps has broken out in Toronto.

I’ve always kind of suspected that running is evil, and now I have further evidence. Not only can it look really unflattering and do bad things to your knees, it is also at the crux of a nasty dispute between the organizers of the Running Dead zombie-themed run and the organizers of the Toronto Zombie Walk.

The fledgling Running Dead have issued a cease-and-desist letter to the Toronto Zombie Walk camp as well as an open letter to the media claiming that the organizers of the longstanding walk have undermined the success of their venture by throwing their weight around with sponsors, promotional partners, and the public. Meanwhile the not-for-profit walking zombies take issue with the fact that the run, which occurs a day after their walk, is making money off the efforts and expense of the people dressing up as zombies.

  1. Hi Steph,

The Running Dead is a team of 5 people who combined their love of zombies with their unique skills sets (Fitness, Film/Rep Cinema, PR, Coaching, Event Planning respectively). I am on the team and when we ourselves realized that our original date of October 26th was the same as that of the Zombie Walk, we moved it and happily took on all the permit hassles that resulted.

We even reached out to Thea Munster to see if there were any synergies, got various excuses (depending on the day) and then the bullying started. A simple no was too much to ask for apparently.

There is simply no justification for intimidating sponsors, media (!) and other participants, even if this is her idea of a Crusade For Zombie Rights …

Disappointing but in the end it was a Weekend of the Living Dead with Night of the Living Dead Live, A Zombie Rocky Horror Show, Zombie Wrestling, The Running Dead and yes, The Zombie Walk.

More than enough undead to go around and if there aren’t, we are all about making more!

Plans are already underway for our next edition- hope you can make it out. This isn’t about running, this is a fun live action Zombie Apocalypse. We hope it inspires people to get outside and get active, but marathon skill level is not required (trust me, I can’t run to save my life LOL)
