A month to the day after Valentine’s, the Japanese and Koreans observe the holiday in reverse.

“White Day” is merely an extension of Valentine’s. In both countries, men receive gifts on Valentine’s Day, whereas women receive gifts on White Day. It is said that White Day began as a gimmick to increase sales for a Japanese confectionery company. Candy is a typical gift given on the holiday and it surpasses the sales of candy on Valentine’s.

More details on the unique holiday can be found at the Korea Times.
