Some people do the touristy thing and have a street peddler write their name on a grain of rice. Those people think too small. Why would you limit yourself to a grain of rice, when you could have an entire field of rice emblazoned with the image of your choice?

Some rice growers in Japan go beyond the plain, ordinary, monotonous rice paddies by meticulously planting and cultivating their fields with different varieties of rice so that they make a picture once the rice plants have grown. Japanese rice paddy art can depict anything from traditional kabuki scenes, to fine art reproductions, and images from popular movies.
