Tenba Switch Mirrorless Camera Bag Series

Tenba Switch 10 Mirrorless Camera Bag for Travelers [First Look]

Mirrorless (micro 4/3 format) digital cameras have been around for a while now. But, until recently, surprisingly few camera bags have been available for the new format.

Tenba — one of my favorite camera accessory manufacturers — has released their latest Switch series of pro bags specifically designed for the new format cameras. They were kind enough to send me a sample of their Switch 10 for review and so far I’m really digging it.

The Skinny

In Tenba’s own words, the Switch 10:

… fits any size mirrorless camera, even up to the larger Sony a7, Fuji X-T1, Panasonic GH4 and Olympus OM-D models, with a vertical grip attached.

The rear pocket fits a full size iPad® or similar sized tablet up to 10 inches, and the bag includes straps to attach a tripod to the bottom.

This bag is an excellent size for mirrorless kits with a few additional lenses, and for carrying mics, recorders and other audio gear.

The Traveler’s Take

There are countless camera bags available for every sort of photographer imaginable. The problem I’ve found is that most focus solely on providing an insane amount of padding to protect your gear. This is great in theory, but it’s often unnecessary and unwanted for travelers looking to pack light.

The Switch series is designed to hold just what you need. No extraneous pockets, loops, zippers, hidden pouches, etc. The Switch 10 for example is specifically constructed to hold: a mirrorless camera with 3-5 lenses or a DSLR with 2-3 lenses (up to 70-200mm 2.8), plus flash, accessories and a tripod.

Other features include:

  • Rugged and durable nylon fabrics (no cheap polyester here)
  • The best YKK zippers and snaps available
  • A quick-access top zipper
  • Water- and abrasion-resistant body armor base panel
  • WeatherWrap rain cover is removable and reversible, with silver on one side to reflect the heat, and black on the other side for a bit more stealth and subtlety.

… essentially: everything you need, nothing you don’t.

Lastly is the Switch’s namesake feature. Every bag in the series features a unique removable cover that lets you change the color and look of the bag to match your personal style. Silent, magnetic closure means no loud velcro noises when opening the flap; while a secondary snap closure provides extra security and is still super quiet.

Pricing + Availability

Switch 10 available now for around $110 (USD) directly from Tenba. Additional removable covers available in Black/Gray Camouflage, Blue Melange, Pink Melange, Blue/Gray Geometric, and Brick Red Faux Leather all for less than $20 each.
