Passengers aboard a ferry in British Columbia, Canada were astounded to witness a 1,000-strong pod of dolphins swimming alongside their ship.

It is highly unusual to find large pods of dolphins in the Strait Georgia Strait. Though it’s not uncommon for Pacific white-sided dolphins to form such large pods, they typically do so out at sea, so it is surprising to see them in the strait among the Gulf Islands.

The encounter was captured on video.
