Don’t Be A Tourist #2

My lady and I are booked for a trip to Portland, Maine this weekend. So Orbitz, being the excellent travel e-business that it is, e-mails me a “reminder” today which is basically just a way for them to scam another e-mail into my inbox in an effort to upsell me on all kinds of add-ons to my trip.

Here’s the kicker though: In the side of the e-mail is a section called “Quick tips on your hotel from our users” and this tip in particular from Marcy (Portland, OR):

Make sure you visit nearby Freeport; it’s full of outlet stores (the first of it’s kind in the US) and is the home of LL Bean. Seeing the giant boot in front of LL Bean’s flagship store is worth the visit alone! In the summer months LL Bean sponsors outdoor concerts in the park adjacent to its store. Fun!

Perhaps I pick on American tourists too much, but I really can’t help myself. Marcy flies 3000 miles from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine to visit outlet stores that she can shop back at home? And the highlight of her trip is a giant freakin’ boot in front of the L.L. Bean store?
