If you find yourself wandering in Rome past the Pantheon and notice a large number of stray cats, you have most likely encountered one of the world’s strangest sanctuaries.

Torre Argentina has been home to hundreds of stray Roman cats for over 80 years. The Anglo-Italian Society for the Protection of Animals became involved in the care of the cats in 1995. Live adoptions are welcome at the sanctuary, drawing attention to international visitors wishing to return home with a new friend.

Visitors from Europe and North America are welcome to do a live adoption or adopt “at a distance”. Torre Argentina is open to the public seven days a week from 12-6pm.

For detailed directions and information on adoption and donating, you can visit the sanctuary’s webpage here.
