Time for a roundup of what’s happening with our friendly neighbors to north. First, from The Globe and Mail, comes the revelation that in order to pacify rambunctious drunken crowds of Canadians, all you have to do is hand them lollipops. According to Victoria Councillor Charlayne Thornton-Joe, this strategy successfully kept peace in the streets this past Canada Day:

Officers doled out hundreds of red and blue lollipops to loud and aggressive, mostly young, men…Ms. Thornton-Joe said after the men popped a lolly in their mouths, their nasty energy all but dissolved. “They got calmer after taking the lollipops,” she said. “It had an immediate effect.”

Canadians are so polite that they will literally stop rioting if you just ask nicely and give them a piece of candy.

Next, from Matador, we have a Canadian guy named Jaeger Mah who is planning to live at the Vancouver airport for 80 days in order to win a contest.

CBC reports that Jaeger Mah, 29, has won the contest that asks one person to “tell the stories” of the airport.

Because apparently the Vancouver government thinks that people who are unfortunate enough not to be spending their day waiting for a delayed flight sitting next to an overpriced Cinnabon must just be dying to hear stories from those that are. And there’s a Canadian willing to spend 80 days in an airport to prove it.
