We’ve been fans of AViiQ since last year when we first test drove their simple (and brilliant) ultra-portable laptop stand which we still use everyday here at Vagabondish HQ. Their latest innovation – the simply named Portable Charging Station – solves a different problem in a way that’s every bit as clever.

These days, travelers are carrying more and more mobile gadgets. The name of the game for smart travelers is “consolidation”. For mobile hardware, the concept of packing more with less is key.
The Skinny
Enter the Portable Charging Station which aims to do just that:
Designed to organize cables and provide power to charge your multiple mobile devices.
When you’re on the go, small details can get lost. With a million things running through your mind, sometimes those tiny cables get left behind. The AViiQ Portable Charging Station is designed for the individual who does not want to spend time multi-tasking cables. Taking up only one outlet port, it gives you the ability to charge 3+1 devices. Complete with a zip-up bag, it’s the companion that helps you remember the little things.
To put that in practical terms, here’s a video overview:
In Detail
Upon opening the box, my initial reaction is that the profile of the Station is compact, but not small. If you’re a minimalist backpacker like me, space and weight matter … oftentimes a lot. That said, when you consider that the interior of the Station – the hub, power brick and interior pockets – are all designed to be as compact as possible while allowing room to store additional gear – the size is really spot on.
I travel with at least six electronic devices almost everywhere – point-and-shoot digital camera, DSLR, iPhone, netbook, a Kindle, and a small backup battery pack. The corresponding charging cables and adapters for all of these devices are at least as large and heavy as the Station itself.
The difference of course is in the design. Everything about the Station is more compact and better organized than simply tossing a fistful of rubber-banded electronic cables in one’s pack. Plus, it negates the need for a powerstrip, which I sometimes travel with as well.
All that said, the function of the Portable Charging Station is extremely straightforward. Simply “set it up” out of the box with all the cables you typically travel with and it’s ready to go. Wherever you land, unzip the bag and plug it in. Voila! It’s that simple.

Bottom Line
We’ll admit that it’s on the pricey side so it won’t be for all travelers. Personally, I’m apt to spend a bit more on gear that is extremely well-built with the knowledge that it’s not likely to fail in the foreseeable future. For my money, AViiQ’s product line, including the Portable Charging Station, is just that. Highly recommended.
