In anticipation of the influx of visitors during the Super Bowl, Indiana’s tourism agency is highlighting 46 regionally popular sandwiches to be featured in a limited-edition guide and to duke it out for the title of the the state’s favorite sandwich.
The Indiana Super 46 Sandwich Guide identifies each sandwich, restaurant, cost and of course, the distance from the Super Bowl Stadium.
“This is a unique opportunity to showcase some of the many local businesses that serve up great food and trademark Hoosier hospitality,” said Amy Vaughan, the tourism office’s director.
The Super 46 Sandwiches include favorites like the Reuben at Shapiro’s Delicatessen in Indianapolis, and the spicy Tom Crean & Crimson Burger at Opie Taylor’s in Bloomington.
Also featured on the list is the (in?)famous hamburger named after 1930s Purdue University football player, Duane Purvis. The Duane Purvis is a traditional quarter-pound cheeseburger served on a sesame seed bun and topped with a thick dollop of peanut butter.
Visitors can vote online at Super46.com for their favorite sandwiches and the winning sandwich will be announced in early February before the Super Bowl on Feb. 5.
