In the Netherlands you can pair your next weekend getaway with a divorce.
Entrepreneur Jim Halfens is the mastermind behind the dutch “Divorce Hotel.” The idea came to Halfens when he recognized a gap in the market in the Netherlands, where the average divorce can easily run into five figures and take months to complete.
At the “Divorce Hotel” couples meet with mediators and lawyers to help them split assets, agree alimony payments and arrange visitation rights – all for a fixed fee.
Halfens uses a number of high-end hotels around the country and the couples, unsurprisingly, usually choose to stay in separate rooms.
Couples must apply to take part in the unique service. And before arriving divorcing couples are screened by the “Divorce Hotel” legal team.
Not getting a divorce anytime soon? No worries, chances are the “Divorce Hotel” will be coming to a screen near you. The Emmy Award winning Base Productions team is currently pitching a series based on the concept to television networks in the US.
