In the wake of a recent hazing incident involving an aspiring gondolier’s assistant, the Venice gondoliers’ association will decide whether to start drug and alcohol testing.
The man involved was allegedly forced to take off his clothes and plunge naked into the Grand Canal in order to secure the job. Video footage was taken and posted on YouTube, but later removed.
The hazing incident, along with other recent behavioral problems amongst the gondoliers in Venice, has prompted the president of the gondoliers’ association to propose testing.
