When it comes to venting your travel woes online, it might be best to do some fact-checking or spell check first
Over a year ago, a Twitter user created @unitedairlanes not to be confused with @United, United Airlines’ official Twitter account. When the user let the account go dormant for a number of months, Twitter users started confusing it with the real United Airlines and added many irate posts.
@unitedairlanes response? Make it a parody account and fool everyone. Tweets have included: “Count your blessings. At JFK they throw knives” and “Twerking is actually a Class Z Super Felony under Sky Law – our half-falcon air marshalls have no tolerance for booty-centric dance.”
The user sometimes comes clean about the account in direct messages back to posters. But the parody account has been growing–with followers looking for a laugh and possibly others that still believe it is United Airlines.
