On Monday, a rare breed of penguin was discovered by a naturalist aboard the Lindblad Expeditions’ National Geographic Explorer ship.

A leucistic Chinstrap penguin was spotted on Antarctica’s Aitcho Islands. This particular breed of penguin lacks the black and white coloring, which acts as camouflage when penguins fish.

David Stephens, the naturalist that saw and photographed the penguin stated–Many wondered about this unusual bird’s chances of success. While odd coloration may make fishing a bit more difficult, leucistic birds are regularly found breeding normally.
