The pop up phenomena has become a staple of the restaurant business. A temporary restaurant, usually centered around some kind of event provides the opportunity for young renegade cooks or very successful mainstream chefs to experiment and create without the need for huge financial backing or the fear of bankruptcy.
Inspired by the success of the pop up phenomena, the company Design Hotels created the Papaya Playa project. The eco-friendly 99 cabana resort opened this week in Tulum, Mexico, and will only be open for six months.
“Our idea was to create a transitory, yet culturally-rooted experience,” a spokeswoman said.
“A playful communal concept is at the fore here – whether its spontaneous creativity at the amphitheater, beach jam sessions or inviting innovative companies to explore the ultimate green workspace.”
Travelers could be in for some interesting and innovative places to lay their head in the future, if the pop up trend catches on in the hotel industry.
