For adventurous travelers hoping to see polar bears without venturing too far north, Manitoba’s Wapusk National Park is the place to go. More than 1,000 bears live within the borders of the park. Located along the shores of the Hudson Bay, the park is also home to 200 species of birds, caribou and wolverines.
The bears are in a walking hibernation from June-August, when the temperature ranges from 14-95F. With unpredictable weather in the summer months, the bears sleep in their dens, living off of fat reserves. The bears are out of their dens and on the move by November, when they head north to hunt for ringed seals.
