After reopening to the public in 2001, the Italian landmark has been monitored, and a surveillance group reports that the tower has recovered about an inch of its vertical incline over the last 12 years.

A number of improvements to the tower have occurred over the last 11 years, including “rescue interventions” involving excavations and steel cables. The landmark is now considered safe for the next two to three hundred years.
