If they build it they will come? But The town of Dyersville, Iowa isn’t so sure if they really want them to come…
Dyersville is home to the field and house where the 1989 movie “Field of Dreams” was filmed. The city is currently considering a $38 million proposal to turn the farmland around the famous cornfield diamond into one of the US’s largest youth baseball tournament and training complexes.
An Illinois couple, Mike and Denise Stillman, have announced plans to buy the famous farmhouse and baseball field, along with surrounding land, to build the “All-Star Ballpark Heaven.” The complex would contain 24 baseball and softball diamonds, an indoor training facility and lodging that would draw teams from all around to compete in tournaments.
The project could provide an economic stimulus to Dyersville and the surrounding areas by creating hundreds of jobs. But locals who already enjoy relatively low unemployment and low taxes are weary of the project.
It remains to be seen if the town will “go the distance” and allow the new development, either way, Dyersville’s Field of Dreams isn’t going anywhere.
