The Hawaiian islands are taking new measures to staying green and preserving their iconic beaches.
Starting Jan. 1, 2014 smoking will be banned at all beaches. Those abusing the policy will be fined $100 for the first offense and up to $500 for further misdemeanors. Lifeguards will be policing beaches and administering tickets.
The Hawaii tourism board “signed a new policy to include all of its beaches to be smoke-free, allowing holidaymakers to truly relax in a healthy and beautiful environment.” It was not only a concern for public health, but also preservation.
