It is said that necessity is the mother of invention, and when Austrian Fritz Gall failed to invent anything of importance, he decided to create a museum dedicated just to failed inventions. Gall’s Museum of Nonsense is located in his hometown of Herrnbaumgarten, Austria about an hour outside of Vienna.
Included in the museum’s collection is a ‘portable anonymizer’–a stick with a black bar that you can hold in front of your eyes to self-censor your face from cameras.
The museum is also home to a bristle-less toothbrush. The “brush” is intended for people with no teeth, obviously.
And it seems that even though these inventions may have failed, Gall’s museum certainly hasn’t,
“We held our first fair for rubbish inventions and thought we’d get 20 or 30 visitors but more than 5,000 came and so we knew we were obviously onto something”
