The hills are alive with the sound of music!
But those hills might not be located where you think they are. They’re not in the Alps, but in China.
China is spending £5.7billion to transform the grimy industrial city of Huizhou into a picturesque Austrian village. The new Huizhou will be a copy of Hallstatt in Austria, complete with an artificial lake.
The Chinese have been photographing the city for years, posing as tourists so as not to gain suspicion. The plan was only discovered when a Chinese guest at Hallstatt’s hotel left behind a bundle of blueprints.
The knockoff alpine village was probably inevitable … if you can knock off a designer bag why not an entire town?
