The beginning of October signals the start of Golden Week, one of the most popular travel times in China. It was also a fitting occasion to introduce China’s first-ever tourism law.
The 112-article law includes tourist safety, unfair competition, and forced shopping trips (some travel agencies offer cheap tours but profit from commissions in partner shops). The law also addresses behavior, mostly due to negative exposure of Chinese travelers overseas this past year. Also included– photography, toilet use, and cultural considerations by country.
