Thanks to the repeal of a century long ban, you can now enjoy a glass of absinthe on your next vacation to France.

The mysterious green liquor was popularized in the 19th century by artists and writers like Van Gogh and Rimbaud. Unfortunately, because of perceived side effects like hallucinations, madness and spasms, absinthe was banned in France from 1915 until April of this year.

Drink up! But if you start looking like the woman in Degas’ painting L’Absinthe, it’s probably time to cut yourself off from “the green fairy.”

Get the entire story at the BBC.

  1. Writing “this year” in a blog post that has no date/time stamp has limited value in today’s fast pace knowledge culture. I shouldn’t have to link to the BBC link to find out this story comes from 2011. It’s like watching an old Disney VHS and the previews saying “101 Dalmatians, coming this fall”, if you don’t know when that piece of media was published, the unspecified “this year” holds no value.

  2. This is my third comment…the other two, agreeing with Katie’s comment about poorly created blogs without relevance if it is two years old, waited for a moderator and vanished. That is censoring something the writer disliked.
As I am the second(?) person to take issue, the chances others who dislike blogs with no time stamp have increased arithmetically.
Making fun of a commentator who followed the “Share Your Thoughts” request is in poor taste.

    1. @Mike: If I were going to delete your comments because you agreed with Katie, why would I not have deleted Katie’s original comment as well?

And it’s not that I disagree with Katie’s sharing of her comments. It’s the silly, thinly-veiled aggression in her comment that I find funny.
