In celebration of William Shakespeare’s birthday on April 23, the World Shakespeare Festival kicks off this week in the United Kingdom.

The festival will be present about 70 Shakespeare productions from around the world and run through November throughout the country. The festival is part of the London 2012 Festival and is produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company.

What makes the festival extraordinary is the diversity of its productions: There will be performances of Shakespeare plays and other works inspired by Shakespeare’s plays, done in dozens of different languages by professional, semi-professional and amateur actors from dozens of different countries.

A schedule of the productions can be seen at MSNBC.com
