A light-hearted April Fool’s blog post by Google Australia claimed the company had figured out a way to finally capture “street view” images of the remote Australian outback– one big bounce at a time.
The prank post stated that the outback images would be captured with a 360-degree head camera that would be attached to the heads of kangaroos.
Google wrote:
To ensure a seamless experience – and to avoid motion sickness – we [Google] have also developed software that will smooth over the bouncing effect experienced with the raw data.
Google claimed that the “roo force” could capture 98 percent of the Australian outback within three years. Maybe next April 1st the “Koala cam” will be announced to capture the final 2 percent.
