It must be great to be a queen–especially when your country may officially name a prized landmark in your honor.
British lawmakers want to change the name of Big Ben to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee (60 years on the throne). At the present time, Big Ben does not have an official name. If the bill to officially name the clock tower is passed, it will be in time for the Jubilee celebrations in June.
Queen Elizabeth II will be the second queen to reach Diamond Jubilee status. The first queen to mark 60 years was Queen Victoria, who is honored by the tower at the Palace of Westminster.
