Britain’s official tourism agency has made a very expensive mistake by misspelling one of the destinations it was trying to promote.
A NYC Subway advertising campaign promoting the “untouched beauty” of Wales’ “Brecon Beacons” but unfortunately the tourism agency misspelled the destination “Breacon Beacons.”
Luckily, the mistake was caught before the posters hit the press in London.
Elizabeth Daniels, the managing director of Brecon Beacons Holiday Cottages, stated she was “delighted” Brecon Beacons had been chosen by VisitBritain to be included in their campaign but, she added, “It is an enormous shame that potential travelers from New York will be googling Breacon by mistake.”
But, thanks spellcheck, Google will automatically correct the misspelt “Breacon Beacons” to “Brecon Beacons.”
The current “Great” poster campaign will cost £25million and is a part of VisitBritain’s biggest ever marketing campaign will run over the next four years and will cost £125million in total.
