This little gadget missed the list of Another 26 Travel Gadgets Every Geek Needs by days. You’re looking at the new Eye-Fi SD memory card:
The Eye-Fi Card is a wireless memory card. It automatically uploads pictures from your digital camera to your PC or Mac and to your favorite photo sharing, printing, blogging or social networking site.
No cables, no waiting, no hassles.
I’ve been waiting for this very gadget for a long time. Imagine never having to worry about whether you backed up your camera recently before it was stolen. Or before you accidentally took a swim with your point-and-shoot in the pocket of your bathing suit. This little baby automatically uploads your photos as you snap them to a variety of popular photo sites. Brilliant!
Gizmodo summed it up thusly: “The verdict: It works flawlessly.”
To be clear, it does exactly what it’s supposed to do. However, there is one catch that, for now, is a deal-breaker for travelers: it doesn’t support hotspots. So it won’t work outside some internet cafe in Bangkok. Or Lima. Or wherever. For now, you’re confined to using it at (or very near) your house.
Nevertheless, it’s certainly a step in the right direction.
