After the government slashed it’s funding by a third, English Heritage is looking for creative ways to attract members and visitors to its 400 historic buildings and monuments.
The organization hired market researchers to determine whether it was detouring visitors because its name was too ”˜stuffy’ and middle class and if more exciting name would broaden its appeal.
Despite the extensive market research, English Heritage’s Chief Executive Dr Simon Thurley told the Sunday Telegraph:
There is absolutely no intention whatsoever of English Heritage changing its excellent and very popular name.
English Heritage has 750,000 members and attracts 11 million visitors to its its castles, stately homes and ruins, which include Stonehenge in Wiltshire and Richmond Castle in Yorkshire. To continue operating, the organisation must increase its profits by 100 per cent in this coming year.
