Japanese businessman, Yuzo Yagi, has donated about a million euros to restore a 2000-year-old pyramid in Rome. The pyramid was built in 18-12 BC as a tomb for the wealthy Roman, Gaius Cestius.
The restoration project will include an investigation of the pyramid using probes to determine whether there are any secret chambers built into the pyramid. The project is set to start in April.
Yagi’s interest in the pyramid was piqued during a visit to Rome last year. The manager of the Pyramid of Cestius, Rita Paris, was quoted saying,
“Last year, he [Yuzo Yagi] visited the pyramid and was struck by how remarkable it was.”
Yagi’s only request is for a plaque with his name on it near the monument.
