The mysterious green liquor was popularized in the 19th century by artists and writers like Van Gogh and Rimbaud. Unfortunately, because of perceived side effects like hallucinations, madness and spasms, absinthe was banned in France from 1915 until April of this year.
Drink up! But if you start looking like the woman in Degas’ painting L’Absinthe, it’s probably time to cut yourself off from “the green fairy.”
