Survey Reveals Who is Most Likely to Get Flight Upgrades

If you were given three scenarios: the lone guy is in his thirties, a group of teenage girls, or a women with a baby in tow, which one do you think would get a free airline upgrade? The answer may surprise you.

“Not many of us are lucky enough to bag a free upgrade, but if you’re a single guy in your thirties, you have a better chance than any of us,” said Victoria Bailie, a spokesperson with Skyscanner in an interview with Scotsman.com.

Flight booking company Skyscanner recently surveyed 700 cabin crew members, asking who they awarded free upgrades to, and as it turned out, single male passengers received the majority.

  1. My husband is at the gold rank for delta skymiles. I’m at silver. When he flies alone and asks for an upgrade, it’s much easier for him, especially if he’s going places where the flights may not be full.

    If I’m with him and he asks for the upgrade, chances are we will not get it because they may not have two available first-class seats. It’s much easier when you’re solo.
