It was a journey that endeavoured to inspire and change the lives of young people. Richard Swanson, 42, was attempting to dribble a soccer ball all the way from Seattle to Sao Paulo in time for the World Cup. The 10,000-mile stunt was raising funds for the charity One World Futbol Project. He sold his condo and other belongings before setting out on the trip which was expected to take more than a year.
Swanson’s journey was tragically short-lived. He was struck and killed by a pickup truck on the outskirts of Lincoln City, Oregon, just a few hundred miles from his starting point.
Swanson blogged about his quest on Breakaway Brazil. Find out more about this from The New York Times.
