That profound question is about to be put to the test in piece of performance art at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre. The Dachshund UN show is part art installation and part performance, with the set modelled after the former UN Commission on Human Rights in Geneva. The members of the assembly, however, are represented by dachshunds, otherwise known as weiner dogs, who interact as part of the show.
The show is the brainchild of Bennett Miller who is, not surprisingly, a dachshund owner. He chose the breed to represent the diplomats of the United Nations because, like humans, they are a racially diverse breed with different colourings and characteristics represented.
Performances of Dachshund UN are free to attend and take place in the Enwave Theatre at Harbourfront Centre on Toronto’s Queen’s Quay between February 28th and March 3rd, 2013.
