Lou Colombo applied to hold a festival in Traverse City, Michigan. This unusual festival would be a silent celebration consisting of nothing.
The real intent of this unorthodox non-event was to give local residents a break from the hustle and bustle of the constant string of festivals going on in the city, and a chance to enjoy the Open Space which is now occupied by festivalgoers more often than not.
The application, which was admittedly more of a statement than a plan, was denied. It did succeed in stirring up controversy and inciting discussion about how many festivals the community should host.
