Question for Bloggers: Who Gives A Bleep About Comments?

Since burning my feeds a couple months ago, I’ve noticed a real disproportionate number of folks signing up for my regular blog feed versus those signing up for my comments RSS feed. It’s like a 100-to-1 ratio.

I’m wondering if I’m not promoting the comments feed well enough or do people just not really care to read it?

What have your experiences been? As a blog reader, do you read the comment feeds at other sites?

  1. This is just my take, Mike. I’m subscribed to your post feed only. And I do read comments, but only on the posts that I click through to. For me, comment interest is entirely dependent upon interest in the post, itself.

Plus, I’m having trouble keeping up with all of the blogs I subscribe to in Google Reader, never mind the Opera and Flock subscriptions. Adding comment feeds to that would make me just a little bit more nuts than I already am.

I do, however, subscribe to the follow-up emails any time I leave a comment. :)

  2. I never sign up for comment rss. I’m mainly interested in the entry itself. I *do* read the comments, but sometimes they’re mostly just conversation and one-liners that doesn’t really add much to the entry. If I leave a comment on a blog, I check back to see if the auther replies. But other than that, I don’t see much of a point of subscribing to the comments feed.

  3. Yeah I’ve never signed up for a comments feed either – and I’ve never really heard of many people doing the same. So don’t worry about it.

  4. I agree with y’all. I never sign up for comment feeds either, but I didn’t want to post my opinion until I’d heard everyone else’s.

For me, it’s just a matter of being already subscribed to too many post feeds myself. I’ve plenty to read already!
