Backpacking around the world taking its toll on you? Don’t fret. Help is on the way. British travel agency ABTA is now offering psychological counseling support to travelers who’ve been through harrowing experiences overseas.
Vagabondish is reader-supported. When you buy through links on our site, we may earn a small affiliate commission. Read our disclosure.
The Center for Crises Psychology (CCP) will give customers who book their tickets through an ABTA affiliate access to a 24 hour hotline which they can then use to receive support in case of a tragedy, injury or bereavement overseas.
Past high profile events that have warranted CCP intervention have included the Sharm el Shaikh bombings, the Asian Tsunami and 9/11 when foreign travelers were affected by catastrophic local incidents. Incidents warranting counseling support don’t have to be front page news in nature. The CCP hotline can also be used in case of accidents abroad, injuries, death of a family member and other tragedies where the grief and anxiety are compounded by the feeling of being in an alien culture.
The company’s patented Backpacker Hug Therapy (BHT) sessions are slated to launch early 2008. (No, not really)
