The 2013 Warrior Games will be welcoming a special guest when it opens next week in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Britain’s Prince Harry will be on hand for the opening ceremony, as well as several of the athletic events.
The Warrior Games is a weeklong athletic competition for wounded, ill, and injured military veterans and is designed to be an introduction to Paralympic sporting competitions. It has been held in Colorado Springs since its inception, owing to the presence of the Olympic Training Center and nearby Air Force base.
Needless to say, the Warrior Games is right in Prince Harry’s wheelhouse. He is an active member of the British Armed Forces who has served several tours in Afghanistan. Harry is patron of several organizations devoted to veterans and the disabled, and will be participating in an upcoming expedition to the South Pole with Walking with the Wounded.
