A depressingly familiar scenario has arisen in Peru. Developers took it upon themselves to destroy a 4,000-year-old pyramid at an archaeological site in El Paraiso. They attempted to demolish several others on the site but witnesses intervened to stop them.
The 20-ft pyramid that was destroyed had not yet been fully studied and so knowledge of things like how it was built are now lost forever. Two companies, Alisol and Provelanz, have had criminal complaints filed against them over the incident.
