Rusty the Red Panda has been returned to his home at the Washington Zoo after going missing from his enclosure. He was found exploring the leafy D.C. neighborhood of Adams Morgan, where he was later recaptured. It is unclear how the animal, which is about the size of a raccoon, came to be on the lam in the first place.
Rusty is less than a year old and a recent arrival at the zoo. He was moved to D.C. from another zoo in Nebraska to be paired with a Shama, a female. Red Pandas are considered a vulnerable species.
