A wooden schooner and its crew haven’t been heard from since early June, a week after setting out from New Zealand in late May. Friends and family of the seven crew members grew worried after the ship went incommunicado.
Nina, an American racing sailboat, was built in 1928 and is equipped with an emergency beacon, satellite phone, and tracking technology, but none of these devices have been heard from and the vessel has not arrived in Newcastle, Australia, its intended destination.
Aerial searches were undertaken after maritime authorities were alerted to the situation, but thus far have found no trace of the missing ship.
