What’s up with Dubai and mega-construction? Not satisfied with having the world’s tallest building (which is also the tallest hotel which has the highest tennis court and the tallest atrium and ”¦ you get the picture), and a cluster of islands shaped like a palm tree, the wealthy emirate is now looking to build a robotic Jurassic theme park called Restless Planet. Estimated to cost over a cool billion dollars, the futuristic park will feature 109 animatronic dinosaurs scampering around a 500,000 square foot park.

Slated to open in 2008, the park will house dinosaurs from 40 species, and will take visitors through the history of evolution, right from the Big Bang to the age of the dinosaurs.
The list of experts behind the project is impressive. Jack Horner who served as technical advisor during the making of the Jurassic Park movies is said to be on the advisory council for the park, and the sets are being produced by Impossible Pictures, the people behind the BBC series, Walking with Dinosaurs. The dinosaurs themselves will be created by a Japanese company that created animatronic dinosaurs for London’s National History Museum.
If the promotional video is anything to go by, the park alone is going to be reason enough to visit Dubai. The man behind the dinosaurs Mohammed Galadari promises a “scary environment.” No kidding.
