About 50 years ago, two Indian planes crashed into the Mont Blanc landscape 16 years apart, and much of the debris, covered by snow, was never cleaned up. It’s not unusual for climbers to find belongings lost in the crashes, but News.AU reports that a French climber recently uncovered an actual treasure chest that was aboard one of the flights.
The climber turned in the metal box, filled with jewels valued at nearly $360,000. The French and Indian authorities are working together to discover the owner of the treasure, but if none is identified, the find will be returned to the climber.
