Who hasn’t occasionally felt a slight boredom-induced tug of temptation to purchase something from the array of products showcased in the sexy in-flight catalogue? Until now the damage one could do on an airborne shopping spree was limited mainly to fancy cosmetics, whiz-bang gadgetry, alluring jewelry, and the ubiquitous selection of duty-free booze and tobacco.
Spring Airlines, China’s largest privately owned carrier, is set to begin selling cars among its in-flight offerings. The airline is currently in the process of training its flight attendants, who will now — in addition to knowing how to save your life, facilitate a crash landing, mix your favourite drinks, speak different languages, mediate conflicts, and all of the other vital skills they possess — will also be able to authoritatively explain the features and benefits of the automobiles available and guide you in your purchase. I hope they’re getting commission.
