Under orders not to use arable land, but in a hurry to create urban space for the overcrowded cities in the area, the city of Lanzhou is resorting to the literal flattening of mountains in the area. Yan Jiehe, founder of China Pacific Construction Group, says that this new space for expansion will take just 5 years.
