An archaeological excavation as already begun on a shipwreck discovered by a couple on a beach in Georgetown, Prince Edward Island last week. Photos of the site were sent to a Maritime Archaeology expert who is now of the preliminary opinion that the ship dates back to the 19th Century.
The ship was mostly buried in sand, and now a team led by archaeologist Helen Kristmason has begun to excavate the site. They hope to gather more information about the vessel’s dimensions and construction, including how it was fastened together, the species of wood it was made from, and the measurements of its timbers.
