A zookeeper at the Calgary Zoo sustained a minor injury when gorillas invaded the kitchen he was working in. The kitchen is attached to the gorilla enclosure and the keeper turned around and was astonished to find several western lowland gorillas had snuck into the locked facility.
Emergency responders were quickly on the scene and dealt with the situation, which had the potential to be much more serious. The public was never in harm’s way during the incident, nevertheless a security review is underway to determine how the animals were able to gain access to the secure area. The injury occurred while the keeper was attempting to herd the gorillas back into their enclosure.
