Rock Star’s Golden Grenade Locks Down Airport

In a gaffe of monumental proportions Wayne Coyne, frontman of the band The Flaming Lips, caused the shutdown of Will Rogers Airport on November 10th.

As you might imagine, they’re sensitive about bombs in Oklahoma City nowadays, so when the shape of a grenade was spotted while Coyne’s suitcase was x-rayed, the bomb squad was immediately summoned. The airport was put into lockdown, causing some passengers to miss their flights.

Coyne had been given the defused, gold-painted grenade at a party during his stay in Oklahoma, and didn’t give enough thought to what might happen when he packed it in his suitcase when he was leaving town.
