A South African family has found a novel place to set up bar — inside the hollow of a huge 72 ft high tree in their backyard.

Before you think claustrophobia, read on. The circumference of the trunk is 155 ft, enough to seat up to 15 people comfortably. The ceilings are four meters high and the tree even has its own naturally ventilated cellar to keep beer chilled.
The owner of the farm, Heather van Hearden, and her husband came up with the idea of a pub when they discovered that the old tree in the backyard had a natural hollow.
Apparently, it’s not as rare as it appears. The tree belongs to the Baobab species which tend to become hollow once they cross the thousand year mark. This particular tree could be well over 6000 years old, carbon dating experts have said. While clearing out the inside, the owners came across artifacts that indicate that Kalahari Bushmen might have once inhabited the hollow.
It might have made it to the 6000 year milestone, but with the huge influx of tourists swarming to the pub-in-a-tree, it probably won’t last another one thousand years.
